Onsen Hot Pools, Queenstown
If you’ve been looking at private hot tubs in New Zealand, you’re bound to have come across images of the Onsen Hot Pools in Queenstown. These hot pools are an Instagrammer’s dream, with an epic view over the Shotover River and mountains behind.
Bookings are for an hour and include a glass of local wine beer or juice and a snack of ice cream, crisps or chocolate. There is also range of spa treatments available.
Waiho Hot Tubs, Franz Josef
If you’re exploring glacier country on the West Coast, Waiho Hot Tubs is a great spot to recharge, with individual wood fired hot tubs surrounded by lush native bush.
They use fresh mountain stream water from the Waiho River, and the smell of wood smoke adds to the experience. Bookings are for 1 hour and you’re welcome to BYO drinks and snacks.
Hot Tubs Omarama, Cantebury
In the heart of the South Island, a 30 min drive from Twizel, or halfway between Lake Tekapo and Wanaka, you’ll find Hot Tubs Omarama.
The cedar tubs are lined with stainless steel and filled with fresh mountain water, heated to a temperature of your choice with a wood fired burner. The pools are designed to offer breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding area, while offering privacy for each pool. Sessions are for 60 or 90 minutes, or you can combine a hot tub with a sauna experience.

Waikite Valley Private Pools, Rotorua
The Private Pools at Waikite Valley offer relaxed rural views over the valley and the steaming Otamakokore Stream.
The geothermal water comes straight from the source at Te Manaroa Spring, before being cooled down to an ideal bathing temperature in the pools, and individual temperature controls means you can set the temperature that’s right for you.

Secret Spot Hot Tubs, Rotorua
No longer much of a secret, Secret Spot Rotorua is located at the edge of Whakarewarewa Forest in the Waipa Mountain Bike Car Park, ideal to recharge after mountain biking or walking in the forest. Beautifully lit at night, you’ll pass through the bar area to a huge flaming rock, and the hot pools are tucked away into the forest separated by native plants, creating a natural relaxing environment. The staff will set up your tub with any drinks you order, and there’s even a staff call button if you want refills!
Lake View Pools Polynesian Spa, Rotorua
If lakeside luxury is on the cards, the Lake View Private Pools at Polynesian Spa are the perfect fit! With beautiful views out across Sulphur Bay and across Lake Rotorua, you’ll easily forget that you’re in the centre of Rotorua. The geothermal water here is sourced from the Alkaline Rachel Spring, this features the antiseptic action of sodium silicate nourishing the skin. Bookings are for 30 minutes.
