Lisa Bowie Talks About the History of Waikite Valley Hot Pools

Waikite Valley Hot Pools, 15 minutes from Rotorua, was initially built by volunteers of the local Waikite Valley community in the early 1970s, many of them early rural residents to the area.  The hotpool complex has all the charm of a facility built on foundations of community mindedness and kiwi ingenuity!

Known locally as ‘The Pools” we are situated in the stunning Waikite Valley and are now  best known as the local hotspot for a family friendly, affordable geothermal bathing experience.

A general admission ticket  provides both a  range of bathing options with a temperature range of between 30 and 41 degrees Celsius  and an eco- trail experience  which  provides a close- up encounter with the  mighty Te Manoroa Spring the largest single source of pure boiling water in New Zealand, it really is geothermal activity at its very best!

Private Pool options are also available and provide a chance to set your own bathing temperature preference.

A simple on-site café completes the experience whether it be with a coffee and carrot cake (which we are slightly famous for), or a large bowl of fries or nachos to feed hungry kids!

Make a weekend of it with our overnight camping options. After a day or two enjoying our local biking and walking trails you can come back and enjoy a sunset soak and get up early and be the first in the hot pool. All campsite prices include unlimited pool entry.

Here’s what some of our visitors have to say:

“Absolute ace spot to camp especially when cycle touring! Superb service from the staff who found us one final awesome camping spot. The dip in the hot pools was just what our tired cycling legs needed. Really neat atmosphere with the thermal puffs of steam and the sound of running hot water all around our campsite. Situated amongst a volcanic wonderland, surrounded by the pure natural geothermal waters from Te Manaroa Spring its the perfect place to take a winter getaway or sooth your tired body. Waikite Valley Thermal Pools is the real deal and a place not to pass by.
