Taupo is home to New Zealand’s largest lake, more trout than you can shake a stick at and some of the country’s most stunning scenery. Lake Taupo district is one of New Zealand’s top visitor destinations and there is no better central base to go exploring from than the Waikite Valley Thermal Pools Taupo is easily accessible by scenic main roads from Waikite Valley; within an hour's drive you are in the centre of Taupo nestled on the shores of the mighty lake looking south to Mount Ruapehu.

Not far from the town centre, you’ll find the thundering Huka Falls, New Zealand’s most visited natural attraction. There is so much to see and do in the Taupo area. Fish for rainbow trout by taking one of the many charter boats out on crystal-clear water and exploring the rivers, streams and thermal areas.

Travel further a field to enjoy the famous Tongariro Crossing Walk – the best one day hike in New Zealand – within Tongariro National Park. Perhaps take a scenic drive on the Volcanic Loop Highway or ski Mount Ruapehu's Whakapapa or Turoa fields.
