Completion of redevelopment brings total to ten pools for Waikite Valley Thermal Pools

After extensive redevelopment Waikite Valley Thermal Pools are excited to announce that all of their thermal pools are now fully operational with the last of the finishing touches to the complex completed in December 2007.

The latest addition of a covered in pergola pool, two private spas and two outdoor plunge pools means Waikite Valley Thermal Pools now offer a total of ten natural thermal bathing pools.  Four of these are private spas with the temperature controlled by the user.

The completion of the pools is just part of a $400,000+ upgrade which has been completed in three stages. Stage one included a spacious new family-friendly changing rooms/amenities building with wheelchair access offering high pressure hot showers. The second stage, completed in November 2006, included a new tranquil garden pool with views over the hot thermal Otamakokore River, an extension to the eco walking trail to the Te Manaroa Spring, New Zealand's largest single source of boiling water, and extensive landscaping enhancing this truly unique geothermal experience.

Located 20 minutes south of Rotorua off State Highway 5, the pools vary in temperature from 35-40 degrees celsius and are re-filled daily with pure mineral water direct from Te Manaroa Spring.

Big investment for rural pool complex

Redevelopments worth more than $400,000 meant a busy winter of construction work at Waikite Thermal Valley Pools, 20 minutes south of Rotorua off SH5.

Stage one included a spacious new family-friendly changing rooms/amenities building offering high pressure hot showers.

The second stage, completed in November 2006, included a new garden pool, two new private pools (being the total number of private pools to four) and an extension to the eco walking trail to the Te Manaroa Spring, New Zealand's largest single source of boiling water. An upgrade to the on site caf, extensive landscaping and the development of a covered function area to cater for private functions was also undertaken.

Managing Director Mark Bowie says the most significant addition in the development is the new tranquil garden pool. It provides 38C bathing for 20 to 30 people with views over the hot thermal Otamakokore River.

He adds that the investment is a reflection of the fantastic growth they have experienced, and also the need to meet the expectations of consumers.
